Volvo has announced an all-new variant of its already well-executed XC90 SUV. The XC90 Sport will feature a number of adjustments to give it a more “sporting” drive compared to the family-hauler status of the regular version.
XC90 Sports get stiffer anti-roll bars, firmer shock absorbers, a sport-tuned speed-dependent steering system and, of course, larger 19-inch wheels that will most likely make the ride a bit rougher, but at the same time more enjoyable for driving enthusiasts. The Sport will also offer the two engine choices of the standard XC90, an all-new 238-hp inline-six-cylinder and the 315-hp V-8 from last year.
Considering the XC90 is one of the few SUVs that embraces the reality that it’s a family vehicle and not an off-roader, we wouldn’t be surprised if buyers gravitate toward the even more carlike ride offered in the Sport.
Prices for the 2007 Volvo XC90 Sport have not been announced. Expect to see it arrive at dealerships toward the end of 2006. Pricing for the rest of the 2007 XC90 models remains almost identical to last year, and they’re expected to hit lots sometime in August.
