2010 Infiniti G37: What's New
Vehicle Overview
Infiniti gave its G lineup a modest face-lift for 2010. The G37 comes as a sedan, a coupe and a folding hardtop convertible. All but the convertible can come with all-wheel drive. Competitors include the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, as well as the Lexus IS, Cadillac CTS and Audi A4.
The G37 sedan comes in G37 base, G37 Journey, G37x AWD and G37 Sport 6MT variants. All but the Sport 6MT employ automatic transmissions.
Exterior
For 2010, Infiniti restyled the G37 sedan with a larger grille, darker headlights and more aggressive bumper inlets with dedicated fog lights. Around back, the automaker darkened the taillights and modestly reshaped the rear bumper. Xenon headlights are standard; optional adaptive headlights can swivel in the direction of a turn.
The G37’s standard 17-inch alloy wheels sport a new design; 18-inch alloys come on the G37 Sport 6MT or with a Sport Package on the G37 Journey. Either Sport setup adds a few other visual tweaks. Among them are unique front bumpers and darkened headlights with integrated — rather than bumper-located — fog lights.
Interior
Interior changes will be harder to spot, as they’re mostly relegated to trim pieces. Infiniti replaced last year’s Washi aluminum trim with Shodo aluminum. The former was inspired by Japanese Washi paper; the latter comes from Shodo calligraphy. There’s also a bit more chrome girding the center console area, and Infiniti says the optional wood trim is glossier than before.
Standard features include leather seats with eight-way power adjustments up front, single-zone automatic climate control and a six-speaker stereo with a MP3 jack. Heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof and a USB/iPod-compatible Bose stereo are optional. The optional navigation system is Infiniti’s latest, with better graphics and new features including weather reports, Zagat restaurant ratings and Bluetooth streaming audio. At 13.5 cubic feet, the G37 sedan’s trunk is competitive. Infiniti does not offer a folding backseat, however. That’s something a few competitors — including the 3 Series and C-Class — do.
Under the Hood
The G37 sedan’s 3.7-liter V-6 makes 328 horsepower and 269 pounds-feet of torque. All but the Sport 6MT trim have a seven-speed automatic transmission; the Sport 6MT gets a six-speed manual. The G37x comes with all-wheel drive and the automatic; other trims have rear-wheel drive.
Safety
Standard safety features include active front head restraints, six airbags, antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system. The optional adaptive cruise control can alert the driver, preload the brakes and tighten the seat belts if it senses rapidly decelerating traffic ahead.
G37 Coupe
Like the sedan, the G37 coupe receives similar interior updates for 2010; its exterior sports less of a face-lift than its sedan counterpart. Trim levels include the base G37 Coupe, G37 Coupe Journey, G37S Coupe Sport 6MT and G37x Coupe AWD. The Sport 6MT has a six-speed manual transmission, and all other trims have a seven-speed automatic. The G37 Coupe has the strongest V-6 in the G lineup. It makes 330 hp and 270 pounds-feet of torque.
G37 Convertible
Infiniti brought the G37 convertible to market for the 2009 model year. It uses a folding metal hardtop that deploys or stows in about 30 seconds. Trim levels include the base and Sport, with six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmissions. The convertible’s 3.7-liter V-6 makes 325 hp and 267 pounds-feet of torque. High-end features include heated and cooled seats and a Bose Open Air sound system, which places speakers on each side of the front head restraints. Changes to the G37 convertible are relatively few for 2010.
