Vehicle Overview Volvo has redesigned its small hardtop convertible, the C70, and much of the work will be obvious to passers-by. That’s because, while there are some interior changes, the most dramatic changes are to the car’s bodywork.
Exterior Thanks to the redesign, the C70’s front end bears a resemblance to the recently released XC60 crossover. Overall, the nose is more wedge-shaped and there is a larger air intake. The back less is altered, but new LED taillights give the car a needed update. There are also two new colors and a new wheel design for 2011. Headlamp washers, 18-inch wheels and rear park assist are optional.
Interior Though less is new here, Volvo redesigned the instrument panel and gave the gauges more of a watch-dial design, according to the automaker. The center console is also new. Leather is standard, and there’s a new shade — Cranberry — for 2010. Options include keyless drive, an integrated compass in the rearview mirror, heated front seats and light oak inlays for the interior.
Under the hood The C70 is powered by a turbocharged five-cylinder that produces 227 horsepower and is estimated to get 20/29 mpg city/highway. A five-speed automatic is standard.
Safety In addition to the required dual front airbags, side-impact and side curtain airbags are standard. Volvo says the curtains are designed to stay deployed in the event of a rollover. Traction control and an electronic stability system are standard.
