2013 Ford F-150: More Style and Features
In celebration of it's 65-year relationship with the Future Farmers of America, which also happens to be the same number of years the F-Series name has been in existence (), Ford introduced it's strongly freshened 2013 F-150 to the media in Bruceville, Texas.
“Farm families have always represented an important F-Series truck constituency,” said Doug Scott, Ford Truck group marketing manager and FFA sponsor board member. “For these multitasking customers, a Ford pickup means family transportation, economic livelihood, rugged capability and reliability. Like FFA, Ford pickups are an enduring agricultural tradition, and we are delighted to join forces with them to reveal the new F-150 models.”
Although there are no earth-shattering changes, there are quite a few significant improvements to the half-ton truck, some of which we've recently seen in the 2013 Super Duty lineup.
First, Ford will carryover new MyFord Touch infotainment system on higher trim packages (Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and the new Limited), while other models will get a new 4.2-inch LCD center-stack screen that will give more readable radio and HVAC display information. In addition, like the Super Duty, the F-150 will get a more driver-configurable LCD screen between the revised gauges. The higher MyFord Touch trim packages, when equipped, will get the larger 8-inch LCD screen for Navigation and SYNC built into the newly designed center stack.
Second, the most obvious visual news for the 2013 F-150 is that newly redesigned frontend, that incorporates a three-bar setup and HID headlights on Lariat and above trim levels, while the more work-oriented XLT models and below get a new two-bar "vice grip" grille, very similar to the Super Duty.
Tow ratings for the 2013 F-150s remain identical with 2012 models, with the exception of a few new 2013 models. The new Limited F-150 package will be offered with the 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost only. GCWR and maximum payload numbers are down considerably from the non-Limited versions due in large part to the fact the heavy-duty tow package will not be compatible with the Limited's unique suspension–GCWR numbers will not be higher than 13,400 pounds, with a maximum trailer capability not higher than 7,500 pounds. We should note that the new F-150's maximum gross combined rating (17,100 pounds) and maximum trailer weight (11,300 pounds) are still available with either the EcoBoost or big V-8 engine options.
Also worth noting are the new towing mirrors that will allow F-150 owners to opt for the electrically extendable and foldable rearview devices. We'll have more on the new 2013 F-150 as soon as we can get one in our hands. For full technical specifications, . More to come.
