The 201-horsepower, turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder in the Veloster Turbo joins the existing 138-hp, 1.6-liter power plant. Transmission choices continue to include the six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automated manual in the standard Veloster. It was previously stated that the Veloster Turbo would only come with a manual transmission, but a six-speed automatic will be available for $1,000.

Turbo-model-specific styling cues include new matte gray or Elite White exterior paint options, a larger grille, dual exhaust pipes, 18-inch alloy wheels and unique fog lights, ground effects, rear fascia and LED taillights. The turbo model is also treated to a sport-tuned suspension and revised steering calibration. Interior upgrades include heated leather front seats, a Graphite Black with blue accent color scheme and a redesigned instrument cluster and center stack.

Hyundai estimates that the Veloster Turbo will get a fuel economy rating of 26/38 mpg city/highway with the manual transmission.

The 2013 Veloster Turbo goes on sale this summer.

  • Veloster (automatic): $18,700
