The problem: Due to its current collision-detection thresholds, the occupant classification system in the front passenger seat may interpret certain occupant seating usages or road conditions as a rear collision. This will illuminate the “Airbag Warning” and “Airbag Off” indicators and disable the front passenger airbag.
Corrective action: Dealers will replace the front passenger lower seat frame assembly. Additionally, depending on vehicle production date, dealers may also replace the occupant classification system’s electronic control unit.
Warranty info: This repair is being done free of charge under this limited service campaign. The campaign expires Dec. 31, 2017.
