Jaguar took the wraps off what it says is the highest-performance XJ ever. The 2014 XJR is powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 that the automaker says is good for 550 horsepower and 502 pounds-feet of torque — a considerable power bump for 2014. Top-line versions of the 2013 XJ wring 510 hp from the 5.0-liter.
The new XJR has a top speed of 174 mph, and the automaker estimates a blistering 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds. An eight-speed automatic transmission carries over to the 2014 model, as does the engine start/stop system.
The sport-oriented version of Jaguar’s flagship sedan rides on 20-inch forged alloy wheels and wears a new front air splitter, special rocker sills, and a unique front spoiler and hood vents. A glossy black mesh front with chrome trim furthers its more aggressive look.
Inside, there’s a Jet Black suede headliner and R-exclusive black leather sport seats with ivory, tan or red inserts and contrast stitching; R logos are also embossed into the seats. An 18-speaker Meridian sound system is standard.
Prices start at $116,895 for regular versions and $119,895 for long-wheel base models. All prices include an $895 destination fee.
