2014 Chevrolet SS: What's New

Vehicle Overview

Chevrolet’s new SS is the first rear-wheel-drive sedan offered by Chevrolet in 17 years. The SS is a V-8-powered sports sedan related loosely to the current Chevrolet Camaro. With room for five occupants, the SS competes with the Dodge Charger SRT8, Chrysler 300C SRT8 and Ford Taurus SHO.

ExteriorThe SS’ exterior doesn’t take many cues from Chevrolet’s other high-performance offerings like the Camaro or Corvette. It relies heavily on the Australian Holden VF Commodore — on which it’s based — for its design, and it’s not particularly daring despite its sports-sedan intentions. The SS has staggered wheels with wider rears compared to the front for a more aggressive look. Exterior features include:

  • Forged aluminum 19-inch wheels with summer tires
  • Aluminum hood and rear trunk lid
  • Standard high-intensity discharge headlights
  • Standard LED daytime running lights

InteriorThe SS comes fully equipped with numerous standard interior features. The interior uses high-quality materials and red contrasting stitching with the dark-colored interior that is expected of a performance sedan nowadays. Interior features include:

  • Standard leather seating
  • Standard blue ambient lighting
  • Eight-way adjustable front seats
  • Standard touch-screen multimedia system
  • Standard navigation
  • Standard head-up display
  • Standard Bose nine-speaker stereo

Under the HoodThe heart of the SS is a 6.2-liter V-8 making an estimated 415 horsepower. The “LS3” engine is similar to what’s in the 2013 Corvette and Camaro. The V-8 pairs with only a six-speed automatic transmission using paddle shifters on the steering wheel for manual shifting control. Chevrolet estimates the SS sedan will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in five seconds. Mechanical features include:

  • 6.2-liter V-8, estimated 415-hp
  • Six-speed automatic transmission
  • Standard Brembo brakes
  • Electric power steering

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Electronic stability system
  • Standard forward collision warning
  • Standard lane departure warning
  • Standard blind spot warning
  • Standard backup camera with rear cross-traffic alert
