Luxury automakers are fascinated with coupelike four-door cars, and BMW’s entrant is the 6 Series Gran Coupe. Based on a stretched version of the 6 Series coupe, the Gran Coupe has seating for up to five people but is optimized to carry four. Competitors include the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class and Audi A7.
The Gran Coupe lineup includes 640i six-cylinder and 650i V-8 models, both with turbocharged engines and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. The 6 Series coupe and convertible are covered separately in the Cars.com Research section. New for 2015
The standard iDrive navigation system gains a touchpad controller, and a digital instrument panel is now standard. The automatic transmission now includes launch control, and a Harman Kardon surround-sound stereo is now available. A new Bang & Olufsen edition of the 650i Gran Coupe comes with a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo and unique design cues. Just 100 will be produced.
