Cadillac announced pricing for its upcoming luxury sedan, the range-topping CT6 first unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. When the CT6 goes on sale in March, it’ll start at $54,490. The lightweight yet large sedan will initially come in a few flavors (all prices include $995 destination fee):
A topline Platinum model, loaded with amenities like night vision technology, active rear steering, a 34-speaker Bose Panaray audio system, Magnetic Ride Control and the Active Chassis System will come with a starting price of $84,460, a full $30,000 above the price of a base four-cylinder turbo model. That’s quite a jump from the initial low-end model’s price, but not uncommon in the class. A Lexus LS sedan can see its price nearly double between the base model and the top hybrid, for example.
Cadillac positioned the CT6 to compete with the flagship models from competitor brands, but has priced it at their midsize levels. The CT6’s starting price is actually surprisingly low for the segment, with models like the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class starting much higher.
This makes us suspect that the CT6 will not, in fact, be the range-topping flagship that many thought when it was introduced — the brand has left significant room above the CT6 for something more expensive.
