CARS.COM — Like its sedan sibling, the 2016 Honda Civic coupe scored well in all of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s crash tests, earning the agency’s Top Safety Pick Plus rating.
The Civic was redesigned for 2016, and like the previous model, the new coupe earned good ratings in IIHS’s small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint evaluations. Its newly optional front crash prevention system earned a superior rating, qualifying it for Top Safety Pick Plus status. In both 12-mph and 25-mph tests, IIHS said the Civic coupe’s front crash prevention system successfully avoided collisions.
To qualify for Top Safety Pick Plus status, vehicles must earn good scores in all of the agency’s crash tests as well as offer a front crash prevention system rated as advanced or superior. To earn the second-tier Top Safety Pick designation, vehicles must pass all crash tests with good scores but only have to offer a basic-rated front crash prevention system.
