Vehicles Affected: Approximately 3,000 model-year 2017 Jeep Renegade SUVs

The Problem: Malfunction indicator lamps may illuminate on the instrument panel when no malfunction exists, due to a software issue. If illuminated at incorrect times, the driver may be unaware when a true malfunction occurs, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will update the instrument panel control software for free.

What Owners Should Do: Jeep manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners Sept. 16. Owners can call FCA at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
