An all-new 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet will complement the current sedan and coupe lineup when it goes on sale in spring 2016. It will be an over-the-top, feature-filled convertible like you’d expect near the top of the Mercedes lineup. It debuts later this month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The S-Class Cabriolet’s fabric soft-top lowers in less than 20 seconds at speeds up to 37 mph. A power-operated partition separates the retracted top from the luggage compartment so a driver doesn’t need to manually move the partition for the top to drop like in other applications; the partition power retracts as long as there isn’t cargo in the trunk.

Heated steering wheels are so passé‚ now that they’re even available on minivans, so Mercedes is carrying over the S-Class sedan and coupe’s heated armrests and center console as an option on the cabriolet. No longer do you have to worry about chilly elbows while touring California’s Napa Valley with the top down on a cold 50-degree day.

Mercedes’ Airscarf neck-heating system is standard, as are heated seats and a climate system that automatically senses when the top is down and will adjust climate control operation to provide ideal climate conditions. The Air-Balance fragrance system is also standard and includes an exclusive Pacific Mood scent just for the cabriolet.

S550 Cabriolets are powered by a 449-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4.7-liter V-8, which pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes says the S550 goes from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Not fast enough? Mercedes will offer an AMG S63 Cabriolet with 577 hp, all-wheel drive and an estimated 3.9-second zero-to-60 mph time.
