Vehicles Affected: Approximately 1,300 model-year 2017 Volvo XC90 luxury SUVs

The Problem: The micro gas generator — a part used within the right-hand side seat belt retractor for third-row seats — may detach after the seat belt retractor pretensioner is deployed to become a projectile in the vehicle cabin, increasing the risk of an injury.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the third-row passenger-side seat belt retractor for free.

What Owners Should Do: Volvo will begin notifying owners Aug. 7. Owners can call the automaker at 800-458-1552, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
