CARS.COM — If people with Type A personalities are driven and aggressive, those with Type R personalities must be aggressively driven. That’s judging by the 2018 Honda Civic Type R Prototype, now making its U.S. debut at the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas.
The near-production-ready hot hatch is based on the 2017 Civic hatchback, but makes it clear that — to paraphrase Roddy Piper in John Carpenter’s “They Live” — it has come to chew bubble gum and kick ass … and it’s all outta bubble gum. While engine specs were unavailable, they’ll look to justify the Type R’s aggressively in-your-face appearance marked by a massive rear wing, murdered-out 10-spoke wheels, triple exhaust and a brushed-aluminum exterior finish reminiscent of your Uncle Bill’s freshly polished shotgun.
The peering, narrow-eyed look on the Type R’s visage has a clench-jawed attitude like, “Maybe ya don’t” — while those with Type R personalities be like, “Oh, I’m sorry, but I do.”
