The 2019 Ford Mustang gets a fresh, holiday-appropriate paint color this year: Need for Green. Ford introduces unique colors for the Mustang annually, and the green is the new hue for the new year. Ford calls the color is “hard to miss,” a decidedly accurate assessment — you’ll be anything but in this green machine.
Personally, I like that the green is very bright without veering into neon territory, which would be a bit too much. I’m also a proponent of adding racing stripes if you’re going to go the green route; the hood may look a little flat otherwise.
This is the second green color available for the 2019 Mustang. At the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford announced a special Bullitt edition of the Mustang, inspired by the titular 1968 Steve McQueen film. That ‘Stang has a much more subtle dark-green paint job that closely hews to that of the movie car. If the new Need for Green is the young person’s color, this exists as a more mature alternative for those who don’t want to be seen from afar.
Need for Green will be available up and down the Mustang lineup, so it will be available on both EcoBoost and GT models. But those looking to avoid a pinch this St. Patrick’s Day weekend for lacking green garb will be out of luck — Need for Green won’t be available until summer.
