Subaru’s largest SUV, the Ascent, is getting a new trim level for 2022, and prices are going up only slightly for the new model year. Base prices of the 2022 Ascent start at $33,420 — $75 over the base model-year 2021 version (all prices include destination, which increased $75 for model-year 2022).
That price is for the entry trim, called Base; Premium, Limited and Touring trims return for 2022 joined by the new Onyx Edition, which slots between the Premium and Limited.
The Onyx Edition adds a specific black-finish exterior and 20-inch alloy wheels. It also gets specific interior design details, such as water-repellant seat material. The Onyx starts at $39,120 and builds off of the seven-passenger Premium trim with additional standards such as reverse automatic braking, hands-free liftgate, heated steering wheel and keyless access with push-button start.
The Ascent is again available as a seven or eight seat SUV. Its powertrain carries over for model-year 2022: a 260-horsepower, 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission with paddle shifters. All-wheel drive is again standard, as is a hill descent control system.
