The push towards electrification of the full-size pickup truck class continues with the debut of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV at the 2023 New York International Auto Show. After being able to lay our eyes on the upcoming all-electric pickup, getting its specs, poking around the inside and outside, and seeing what the engineers and designers over at Stellantis (Ram’s parent automaker) have created, we’re proud to award the new truck our Best in Show award. It may not be the first all-electric pickup truck to hit the market — and by the time it arrives in late 2024, it may not even be the fifth — but if Ram can deliver a truck that lives up to the specs it has promised, it just might be the electric pickup to beat in terms of performance, range and capability.

Why It Won

No, it doesn’t look as wild as the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept that debuted just a few months ago at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. But that’s actually OK, as appealing more to traditional truck buyers than people wanting to buy a spaceship is what’s pulling buyers out of line for Tesla’s perpetually delayed Cybertruck and into Ford F-150 Lightnings, so toning down the whiz-bang sheet metal in favor of something more conventional is a good move here. We like the Ram 1500 REV’s looks, which combine a sleeker, facelifted front and rear end with the traditional yet still clean and modern cab midsection. Add in some massive wheels and an absolutely gorgeous interior on the new ultra-premium Tungsten trim level, and the whole truck just looks and feels dynamite.

It should prove to be an impressive performer, as well, if Ram can deliver on the stats. The base battery that’s set to bring 350 miles of range is merely huge, while the optional long-range battery that has an estimated 500-mile range is positively massive. Ram has recognized that the shortcomings of electric pickups for towing and cold weather performance could turn off some truck buyers, so it plans on making that big battery available as well as a forthcoming XR extended-range model that we’ll see later in the year. But unlike some other automakers with electric pickups, Ram is tackling the challenges to traditional truck activities head on and up front, and we appreciate that, especially after experiencing that EV towing range drop-off firsthand.

The new 2025 Ram 1500 REV has the looks, the goods and the promise of capability beyond what other electric trucks are currently delivering. The big question mark is price, but we’re expecting that given the competitive nature of the pickup market, it can’t be too far off what competitors are going for if Ram plans on selling any. But what we’ve seen so far is impressive enough for us to award the 2025 Ram 1500 REV our Cars.com Best in Show award for this year’s New York auto show.
