GMC and Chevrolet launched their Sierra EV and Silverado EV all-electric pickup trucks, respectively, for the 2024 model year in grand style, offering them in a pair of loaded specifications that GMC christened Edition 1 and Chevrolet called First Edition. Chevrolet also rolled out a stripped-down Work Truck trim level and is adding a mid-range LT for 2025; GMC is aiming for lower-priced AT4 and Elevation trim levels to arrive at dealers in the first half of 2025, but the Sierra EV enters 2025 with the range-topping Denali again the only electric Sierra trim available.

Pack Mentality

There is one major development for the 2025 GMC Sierra EV: The introduction of a new, smaller battery. That this smaller pack is known as the Extended Range battery only begins to make sense when taking into account that the 2025 Silverado EV is available with a still-smaller Standard Range pack. GMC says the Extended Range Sierra EV is good for 390 miles on a charge, while the brand predicts the 2024 model’s pack, now known as Max Range, should last up to 460 miles. That’s an increase of 20 miles from the range GMC quoted for 2024.

Regardless of the pack size, the Sierra EV’s 800-volt electrical system can accept up to 350 kilowatts from a sufficiently powerful public DC fast charger, adding 100 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes, per GMC. Draining that battery are front and rear electric motors, giving the electric Sierra a combined 760 horsepower and 785 pounds-feet of torque in Max Power mode. That mode unlocks additional output for short bursts of acceleration, in which GMC says the truck can go from 0-60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. In addition to the range and an additional 6 hp (GMC quoted 754 hp for 2024), the 2025 Sierra’s towing capacity is also revised upwards, increasing 500 pounds to 10,500.

Edition 1 in All but Name

Otherwise, scanning the specifications for the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 and 2025 Sierra EV Denali, the only apparent difference is that the 2025 truck is available in six colors whereas the ’24 only came in gray. (White, black, dark red and two blues are the new choices.) Standard equipment again includes an adaptive air suspension capable of varying ride height by approximately 2 inches; four-wheel steering with low-speed CrabWalk in which the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels, allowing the truck to drive diagonally; GM’s MultiPro MidGate, which allows users to fold the rear cab wall to accommodate loads nearly 11 feet long while maintaining a rear passenger seat; and 24-inch wheels.

Standard luxury and tech features include a fixed panoramic glass roof, quilted leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim, Super Cruise, 11-inch digital gauge cluster, 16.8-inch touchscreen, 14-inch head-up display and vehicle-to-home charging that GMC says can power essential appliances for up to 21 days in a power outage.

The 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali also includes a full suite of advanced driver-assist technology as standard: forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind spot intervention with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, road-sign recognition, a driver-attention monitor, a following-distance indicator and GM’s Safety Alert Seat, which vibrates the sides of or entire driver’s seat bottom cushion to warn them of the direction of potential threats.
