2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition: Two Trends in One
Off-road versions of SUVs are all the rage at the moment: Witness the Nissan Rogue Rock Creek, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition and Ford Bronco Sport. And neither the carmakers nor the buying public seem to have had their fill of black-out styling packages. The new 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition lets buyers get in on both trends with a single vehicle.

    Don’t Get Carried Away
Mitsubishi is refreshingly honest about the Trail Edition, making no bold claims about its capability. Instead, it calls the new Outlander an “off-highway styling and equipment package.” The Trail Edition includes a large black hood decal and black 18-inch wheels, as well as black side mirrors, door handles, grille surround, window surrounds and lower-body trim.
What is bold about the Trail Edition is its pricing. Mitsubishi is charging $40,890 (price includes $1,595 destination charge), $4,100 more than the AWD SE trim level it is based upon. That’s a lot of coin for some black pieces, but Mitsubishi will happily charge even more. All-terrain tires, additional graphics for the sides of the vehicle, a Thule roof rack, and numerous rack and hitch-mount accessories for transporting bikes, kayaks and other outdoor gear are available for dealer installation.
The SE(L) Bits
Every 2025 Outlander is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 181 horsepower and 181 pounds-feet of torque and paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the SE trim level, but the Trail Edition includes AWD.
Other standard features on the Trail Edition include a power panoramic moonroof (normally standard only on the SEL and Platinum), LED exterior lighting, a hands-free power liftgate, heated front seats, an eight-speaker Yamaha sound system and Mitsubishi’s Mi-Pilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centering steering for hands-on semi-autonomous driving.
