2025 Polestar 3 Adds Rear-Drive, Single-Motor Base Variant

Volvo’s all-electric subsidiary is sliding a base variant into the Polestar 3 lineup just as sales of the electric SUV start. Previously, Polestar announced only dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions of the 3; now, however, the company has announced a rear-drive single-motor option.

Electric Motor and Range
The entry-level Polestar 3 Single Motor makes 295 horsepower and 361 pounds-feet of torque, and Polestar says it will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 7.8 seconds. For comparison, the company claims the basic Dual Motor setup, which generates a total of 489 hp and 620 pounds-feet, can hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
Otherwise, the 3 is unchanged from the rest of the previously announced 2025 lineup. It draws power from a 111-kilowatt-hour battery pack that can replenish at up to 250 kilowatts, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes on a DC fast charger.
Official range figures are not available yet, but Polestar’s preliminary estimates do not suggest an increase in range commensurate with the decrease in power. The company estimates the 3 Single Motor will manage about 404 miles on the European test cycle (estimated range ratings are typically lower once tested by the EPA), compared to the standard 3 Dual Motor’s 390 miles of range on the European cycle (for reference, Polestar says the standard dual-motor version can go about 315 miles between charges on the EPA cycle).

Availability and Pricing
While the Polestar 3 Dual Motor is available to order now, the single-motor version will arrive later in 2024. Polestar has not announced U.S. pricing, but based on figures from the U.K., it will likely start roughly $6,000 cheaper than the dual-motor option; that would mean a starting price of around $69,000.
