Hyundai, luxury arm Genesis and sister brand Kia are issuing new recalls for more than 208,000 electric vehicles due to a potential issue with the integrated charging control unit. The ICCU may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power. It’s not the first time such a recall has been issued; the first was in March.
Affected vehicles and their model years include the following:
2022-24 Hyundai Ioniq 5
2023-25 Hyundai Ioniq 6
2023-25 Genesis GV60
2023-24 Genesis Electrified GV70
2023-24 Genesis Electrified G80
2022-24 Kia EV6
The issue stems from a malfunction in the ICCU, which could prevent it from properly charging the 12-volt battery. If the 12-volt battery isn’t properly charged, the propulsion system can lose power, resulting in a complete loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.
To resolve the problem, dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary. Additionally, the ICCU software will be updated. All repairs will be done for free. Kia owners will be notified Dec. 13; Hyundai and Genesis owners will be notified Jan. 17, 2025. Those with further questions can call Hyundai at 855-371-9460 (referencing recall number 272), Genesis at 844-340-9741 (025G), Kia at 800-333-4542 (SC327) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236. Owners can also visit the NHTSA’s website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
