All the Pickup Truck News: Gladiators Galore, Ranger Real-World MPG and More
The past week has seen the flood of 2020 Jeep Gladiator news reduced to a trickle, but we did get to see some cool Gladiator-based pickup truck concepts built by Jeep for the 2019 Easter Jeep Safari. We also drove more than 500 miles in a new 2019 Ford Ranger and got to see what kind of fuel economy it gets in the real world. Beyond that, two pickup truck recalls were in the news and we recapped the most popular stories on PickupTrucks.com for March.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts Are Coming
Every year, Jeep builds a bunch of drivable concept vehicles for its annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, and this year these special one-off models focused on the new Jeep Gladiator pickup, as well as the Gladiator pickup of old — the military truck from the 1960s.
The concepts, all of which will appear at the Easter Jeep Safari later this month, include:
- A regular-cab, long-bed Gladiator, the J6
- An overlanding Gladiator called the Wayout
- A motocross-inspired Gladiator named the Flatbill
- A retro Scrambler-themed Gladiator that resurrected the Scrambler name
- The Gravity, a showcase of many of the Mopar parts available for the Gladiator
- The Five-Quarter, a Jeep M-715 Gladiator-based resto-mod with a Hellcrate motor
Ranger Fuel Economy
A round-trip journey of more than 500 miles from Ann Arbor, Mich., to Toronto and back was a golden opportunity to test the fuel economy of the new 2019 Ford Ranger in realistic conditions: carrying passengers and luggage in a combination of highway and city driving. Elsewhere, approximately 131,000 2015-19 Ford F-150 and Super Duty pickups were recalled for an issue with an engine block heater cable. A much smaller recall of approximately 30 model-year 2019 Ram 1500’s was issued because the steering wheel might detach. Fun fact: The steering wheel is necessary for safe driving.
