Stellantis made headlines in November when the company issued a “do not drive” order for a population of Chryslers and Dodges after two people died in two separate crashes involving 2010 Dodge Charger sedans. Now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has now confirmed a fifth Takata related fatality for 2022 — the third this year for Stellantis — after a driver-side airbag inflator was ruptured in a 2010 Chrysler 300.

In November, Stellantis confirmed more than 270,000 vehicles as part of the order due to defective Takata airbag inflators, which can rupture in a crash and throw shrapnel and other debris into the vehicle instead of properly inflating the airbag. NHTSA is urging all owners to have their vehicles immediately looked at and serviced, once again highlighting the problem of consumers either being unaware of the recall or outright ignoring it and refusing to get their vehicles serviced despite the efforts of automakers reaching out to affected owners.

The agency is urging owners to check if their vehicle is affected by the recall via its website. If it is, owners need to contact their local dealer to replace the inflator with a redesigned one for free. Owners can speak with Stellantis directly by calling the automaker at 833-585-0144, or they visit the company’s Takata recall site to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
