Ford Taurus X, Mercury Sable Cancellations Confirmed

Reports hit the web last week that not only was the Taurus X crossover expected to be terminated this spring, but that the long-running Mercury Sable sedan would cease production at the same time. This morning, Ford confirmed that news with us: Both will indeed stop production this spring.

At next month’s Detroit auto show, Ford will display an all-new Taurus sedan intended to replace the current model, which shares most of its parts with the Sable. There’s no word on whether a new Sable will come eventually, but things don’t look good.

There’s still talk that Mercury will get more of its own products, but there have been no official announcements on that front. The most-rumored is a convertible based on the European Focus Cabriolet.

The Taurus X lost its reason for being after the Ford Flex was released this past summer.
