GMC finally announced pricing for the CarbonPro Editions of its and AT4 — and adding the newfangled carbon-fiber bed will cost buyers. A lot. CarbonPro Edition AT4s will cost $66,635 and Denalis a cool $70,020 including destination fees. For reference, the starts at $52,295 and the Denali at $56,195. What could possibly make a pickup truck bed — even one made with carbon fiber — cost so much?
Well, for starters, you’re not just getting the bed. The CarbonPro bed is not a stand-alone option — not yet, anyway — and instead comes as part of the CarbonPro Edition option package. For 2019 models, which will have limited availability starting this summer, that means a loaded version of each truck powered by the 420-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 and 10-speed automatic transmission. The more widely available 2020 models can be powered by either the 6.2-liter or the .
Additional features abound in both models. Beyond the 6.2-liter and CarbonPro bed, in the Sierra 1500 AT4 buyers will get:
CarbonPro unique badging
MultiPro audio system by Kicker, a Bluetooth-enabled speaker built into the MultiPro tailgate
A head-up display
An 8-inch driver information center
Mirror caps
HD surround vision cameras
Rear camera mirror
Forward collision alert
Lane-keeping assist/lane departure warning
Forward automatic braking
Front pedestrian braking
Automatic high-beam headlights
Following distance indicator
Moonroof
Power side steps
Trailer tire pressure monitor system
Bose audio
Navigation
Front and rear park assist
Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires
Black assist steps
Cat-back performance exhaust
Universal home remote
The list is similar, but shorter, in the more feature-laden Sierra 1500 Denali:
CarbonPro unique badging
MultiPro audio system by Kicker
A head-up display
HD surround vision cameras
Rear camera mirror
Forward collision alert
Lane-keeping assist/lane departure warning
Forward automatic braking
Front pedestrian braking
Automatic high-beam headlights
Following distance indicator
Moonroof
Power side steps
Trailer tire pressure monitor system
Unique 22-inch wheels
While the pricing may be intimidating, it’s not out of line with loaded half-ton offerings from both Ford and Ram. GMC also says that more than half of its trucks have transaction prices north of $50,000, and it hopes to secure more of the “premium position” among pickup truck manufacturers in the future, so bargain versions of the bed may not be coming anytime soon.
Limited numbers of CarbonPro Edition 2019 Sierra Denalis and AT4s will go on sale later this year, with a greater quantity expected for the 2020 model year.
