How Do Car Seats Fit in a 2019 Audi Q3?
The verdict: Audi’s smallest SUV is redesigned for 2019, and the tiny Q3 does a great job of blending luxury and technology, though our praise doesn’t extend to the backseat when rear-facing car seats need to be installed; legroom was an issue for these seats.

A Grade
- Latch: The two sets of lower anchors sit under pop-off plastic covers; they’re visible and accessible. Three top tether anchors sit halfway down the seatback; they are also clearly marked and easy to use.
- Forward-facing convertible: After we raised the head restraint, the seat fit well. Both lower Latch and upper tether connections were easy.
- Booster: We did not need to raise the head restraint to situate the booster flush against the seatback. The Q3’s stable buckles should make it easy for kids to buckle up independently.
B Grade
- None
C Grade
- Infant seat: This seat went in easily thanks to accessible lower anchors, but legroom is not great. Our 5-foot, 6-inch front passenger’s knees were grazing the glove box. According to Audi, the Q3 is the only SUV in this segment with a standard sliding and reclining second row.
- Rear-facing convertible: As with the infant seat, the install was trouble free, but legroom for our front passenger was again a problem.

For the Car Seat Check, we use a Graco SnugRide Classic Connect 30 infant-safety seat, a Britax Marathon convertible seat and Graco TurboBooster seat. The front seats are adjusted for a 6-foot driver and a shorter passenger. The three child seats are installed in the second row. The booster seat sits behind the driver’s seat, and the infant and convertible seats are installed behind the front passenger seat.
We also install the forward-facing convertible in the second row’s middle seat with the booster and infant seat in the outboard seats to see if three car seats will fit; a child sitting in the booster seat must be able to reach the seat belt buckle. Parents should also remember that they can use the Latch system or a seat belt to install a car seat, and that Latch anchors have a weight limit of 65 pounds, including the weight of the child and the weight of the seat itself.
