But we already received the specs, and compared to the competition, the Elantra stacks up well except in one area. While overall passenger volume is quite good at 95.6 cubic feet, rear legroom is not a strong point for the new Elantra. At 33.1 inches, rear legroom in the Elantra falls behind all the competition, including the current Civic at 34.6 inches, the outgoing Elantra at 35 inches, the Chevy Cruze at 35.4 inches and the Toyota Corolla at 36.3 inches.
Rear passengers are out of luck, but there is plenty of room for luggage with a 14.8-cubic-foot trunk, bested only by the Chevy Cruze at 15.4 cubic feet.
The driver and front passenger should have spacious digs, as the Elantra bests the three current competitors in headroom and legroom. The often-overlooked hip room also bests the trio of competitors in front and back.
We’ll have more firsthand impressions on the new Elantra from the Los Angeles Auto Show later this week. Continue reading below for a detailed comparison chart.
