Motor Trend reports that the new G will go on sale in summer 2014 and be a couple inches longer and use a more muscular design. It’ll also have a lower roofline than the current model and a four-door-coupe-like silhouette. Coupe and sedan body styles will return, with the former debuting first.
There’s even bigger news in the powertrain department. Infiniti is exploring whether to bring diesel power to its U.S. lineup, by borrowing the C-Class’ 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that’s available in Europe. It’s also likely that the next G will feature a hybrid powertrain. According to Motor Trend’s source, plans also include a hybrid version of Infiniti’s 3.5-liter V-6 and a twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter V-6 with direct injection. The latter is for the group’s new Infiniti Performance Line brand and should generate around 530 horsepower.
