While it may sound humorous that someone’s pants could catch fire, there are serious repercussions after today’s announcement that roughly 111,000 2003 – 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees are being recalled due to seat warmers that can overheat and even catch fire.

While 32 owners have complained about this problem, DaimlerChrysler, the company that owns Jeep, isn’t issuing a recall notice via mail until July. Many recalls are issued without even one owner complaint; 32 documented cases of overheating or fire seems significant, and the company admits there have been a few instances of injuries. We suggest Grand Cherokee owners with heated seats contact their dealers to schedule a repair. Otherwise, Jeep should consider itself lucky it’s the middle of summer.
