If you’re among the few people so far who have purchased a new Kia Niro EV and want to take advantage of its unique DC fast-charging capability, Kia would like you to know it has partnered with nationwide charging infrastructure company Electrify America to help you do that. The new Kia Select program will be available for enrollment via the Electrify America charging app on your smartphone, and it will give Niro EV owners access to DC fast chargers for a set flat rate of 35 cents a minute.

The automaker says that DC fast-charging systems with 50-kilowatt capacity can charge a Niro EV to nearly 80% of its battery capacity in about 75 minutes. In other words, if you pulled up to a charger with batteries depleted, a not-quite-full charge would cost you about $26 to get you at most another 191 miles, based on the Niro EV’s 239-mile EPA-rated range estimate.

“Electrify America has worked closely with Kia Motors America to develop a pricing program that recognizes the unique charging profile of the Kia Niro EV, and enhances the charging experience of Niro EV drivers,” said Wayne Killen, director of infrastructure planning and business development at Electrify America, in a statement. “While we will continue to offer ways to facilitate the mobility of EV drivers with our rapidly expanding ultra-fast nationwide charging network, we encourage all our customers to stay at home as much as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, and abide by all government and CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidelines.”

The same Electrify America app can help drivers locate chargers, start and control a session, and payvia a credit or debit accounts. The Kia Select program also waives session fees and subscription fees entirely. The program is available right now in the U.S. for all 2019 and 2020 Kia Niro EV owners and lessees, and it’s set to continue until the end of 2020, at which time Kia says it will be re-evaluated to determine whether to continue it.
