Mazda has a pretty fresh lineup of vehicles in the U.S., the lone exception being the Mazda Tribute. This Ford Escape rebadge is a poor seller for Mazda, and it’s old. That will all change in March, when the Japanese automaker unveils its new Minagi compact crossover concept at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show.
The concept is the second one to use Mazda’s new design theme first seen on the Shinari concept. Overall, the look is more refined; the front end almost looks like it was taken off a new Jaguar XJ. The CUV concept will sport Mazda’s next-generation fuel-efficient powertrains, body chassis and transmissions, dubbed “SKYACTIV.” It will likely be very different from Ford’s next-generation SUV, and we wonder if the CX-7 and this will exist side by side as well as the CX-9 three-row crossover.
We’ll have more information come the start of the March. A few more sketches are below.
