CARS.COM — Mitsubishi showed a significantly updated 2017 Mirage hatchback late last year, and at the 2016 New York International Auto Show it’s following up with the debut of a new sedan body style dubbed Mirage G4. Already sold in Asia as the Attrage, the subcompact Mirage G4 arrives at U.S. Mitsubishi dealers this spring and will compete against cars such as the Ford Fiesta, Nissan Versa and Chevrolet Sonic.

Like other small sedans, the Mirage G4 has an upright, stubby look from certain angles, particularly from the side. It’s powered by the same 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that drives the 2017 Mirage hatchback, and Mitsubishi claims it will offer top-of-class combined mpg. EPA-estimated gas mileage is not yet available for the sedan, but the 2017 Mirage hatchback is rated 39 mpg combined with the optional continuously variable automatic transmission and 36 mpg combined with the standard five-speed manual.

Technology features are becoming increasingly important in all segments of the market, including economy cars, and the Mirage G4 will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The systems mirror select smartphone features, such as navigation, on a dashboard screen for safer and easier use.

Pricing for the sedan hasn’t been announced, but the 2017 hatchback starts at $13,830, including an $835 destination charge.
