More Than 1 Million Toyota, Lexus, Subaru Vehicles Recalled for Backup Cameras

Toyota is recalling more than a million Toyota and Lexus vehicles over an issue with the backup camera that could decrease driver visibility. (Lexus is Toyota’s luxury arm.) Subaru’s Solterra electric SUV, which is akin to the Toyota bZ4X with a Subaru badge, is also included in the recall.

Affected Toyota vehicles include the following vehicles and their model years:

  • 2023-25 bZ4X, Highlander and RAV4 SUVs; Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell sedans; and Prius hatchbacks
  • 2025-26 Camry sedans
  • 2023-26 Crown sedans
  • 2025 Crown Signia wagons and Sienna minivans
  • 2024-26 Grand Highlander SUVs
  • 2024-25 Land Cruiser SUVs
  • 2023-24 Venza SUVs

Affected Lexus vehicles include the following:

  • 2023-25 ES and LS sedans and RZ SUVs
  • 2024-25 GX SUVs and LC cars
  • 2022-25 LX and NX SUVs
  • 2023-26 RX SUVs
  • 2024-26 TX SUVs

Affected Subarus include model-year 2023-25 Solterras.

The backup camera in the affected vehicles may fail to display or may freeze while the vehicle is reversing, increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the software for the 360-degree camera system’s parking assist electronic control unit for free. Toyota will notify owners by late December, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 800-331-4331, visit Toyota.com/recall, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
