Toyota is recalling more than a million Toyota and Lexus vehicles over an issue with the backup camera that could decrease driver visibility. (Lexus is Toyota’s luxury arm.)
Affected Toyota vehicles include the following vehicles and their model years:
2023-25 bZ4X, Highlander and RAV4 SUVs; Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell sedans; and Prius hatchbacks
2025-26 Camry sedans
2023-26 Crown sedans
2025 Crown Signia wagons and Sienna minivans
2024-26 Grand Highlander SUVs
2024-25 Land Cruiser SUVs
2023-24 Venza SUVs
And affected Lexus vehicles include the following:
2023-25 ES and LS sedans and RZ SUVs
2024-25 GX SUVs and LC cars
2022-25 LX and NX SUVs
2023-26 RX SUVs
2024-26 TX SUVs
The backup camera in the affected vehicles may fail to display or may freeze while the vehicle is reversing, increasing the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will update the software for the 360-degree camera system’s parking assist electronic control unit for free. Toyota will notify owners by late December, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 800-331-4331, visit Toyota.com/recall, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
