NHTSA Initiates Investigation of Dodge Caliber's Accelerator Pedal

Toyota may not be the only automaker having problems with a sticking accelerator pedal.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has turned its attention to 161,000 Dodge Calibers from the 2007 model year. So far the agency has received five complaints from consumers about the accelerator pedal getting stuck while driving.

The pedals were built by Indiana-based CTS Corp., which also manufactured pedals for Toyota, including those involved in the automaker’s 2.3 million-vehicle recall.

Chrysler says the problem seems to be concentrated in vehicles built during a specific five-week period in 2006 and is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to any potential defect. The 2007 Dodge Caliber is equipped with electronic throttle control and has a brake override system.
