Typically, three complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration won’t spark an investigation. However, that’s exactly how many it took to alert the federal agency to investigate the 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan over pedal entrapment.

Ford says it is cooperating fully and is warning owners not to stack all-weather floormats on top of the standard carpet mats. There is an attachment on the all-weather mats to secure them to the car floor.

The investigation would seem unusual if weren’t for Toyota’s massive recall for a similar problem late last year.
