Many manufacturers have abandoned the minivan segment, but it appears Nissan plans to stick with it. The automaker released this sketch of its redesigned Quest minivan, which is scheduled to arrive in early 2011.
Few details were released with the image but it’s clear from the graphic that Nissan is taking a less-polarizing design direction with the new Quest. The bulging front end, for one, is reminiscent of the new Toyota Sienna’s face.
The current Quest, which debuted for 2004, was defined by its unorthodox interior and exterior styling. Later in its lifecycle, however, some of the more controversial elements — like the center-mounted gauges — were discarded.
Despite adopting more conventional elements, the Quest hasn’t been a big seller when compared to models like the Honda Odyssey, Sienna and Dodge Grand Caravan. Its styling may have had something to do with that, but its reliability ratings weren’t the best, either. To have a chance with minivan shoppers, Nissan has to improve on the latter with this redesigned model.
