Nissan confirmed reports today that the Titan XD pickup truck with the Cummins diesel 5.0-liter V-8 engine will cease production later this year ahead of the reveal of an updated 2020 Titan and Titan XD. According to a Nissan spokesperson, "This will help better position Nissan in the long term as we prepare for the launch of the new, refreshed 2020 Titan and Titan XD gas later this year." The spokesperson also confirmed that the single-cab versions of both trucks would not be offered for 2020.

The Titan XD diesel was meant to be a tweener option for those looking for more capabilities than a half-ton truck but not willing to commit to a three-quarter-ton heavy-duty pickup. That tweener status was most evident in our , where the Titan XD performed well and received praise from our judges but did not finish near the top of the results.

Sales have also reflected that, and while Nissan doesn't separate Titan and Titan XD sales in its reporting, the Titan as a whole sold only 2,242 units in July, down from 3,977 in July 2018. That's … not good, to say the least.

There's no word yet as to when exactly we'll see the 2020 Titan and Titan XD, but with the 2019 State Fair of Texas (September/October) and Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (November) approaching, it's likely we'll see them soon.
