Porsche Takes 2019 Macan to New Heights in High-Altitude Testing
Porsche’s smallest Macan SUV joined the Porsche SUV lineup in 2014 and is getting a facelift for 2019. Porsche unveiled teaser images of the 2019 Macan and Macan S during high-altitude testing near South Africa, about 11,000 feet above sea level in the tiny country of Lesotho. There, Porsche stated, “the sports car masquerading as a compact SUV also impressively demonstrated its off-road capabilities.”

Given that Porsche put the compact SUV through its paces in extreme terrain — “rough asphalt, dusty gravel roads and hostile mountain passages,” according to the automaker — it’s likely that the new Porsche Macan model will feature enhanced off-road abilities to match the improved turbo engine options.
Other details are few, but the camouflage on the models pictured is light, and like Porsche’s recent redesign of the larger 2019 Cayenne, the exterior changes appear subtle. The biggest update for the Cayenne is inside, with a completely redesigned — and almost button-free — control panel; it’s likely the new turbocharged Macan will adopt the same design.
