This week’s top reader review comes from Dale Carnegie of Texas. Dale recently bought a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid and explains how well the mileage is holding up to the EPA estimates on the window sticker. As we continue to discover the best reviews submitted by our readers, we’re continually impressed by the honest feedback. Dale doesn’t give his Escape a free pass on interior or steering feel, and for his fine reporting we award him the no-prize-attached Reader Review of the Week honor. Keep reading for his full review.

“The Escape Hybrid (FWD) has met EPA estimates in the four months I’ve had it. Average 33.5 mpg in a gridlock/stop & go/highway-driving environment (plus July & August in Texas is HOT). Power is good and the transition between the electric motor & gas engine is reasonably smooth.

Although the vehicle handles well, the steering wheel is too free.

Ford really needs to consider driver needs with the interior design. Although the wipers, lights, radio, etc. are well located, there are no tie-down or grocery bag hooks in the rear. The center armrest storage is huge, it is just a huge box. It is also somewhat difficult to get your hand down to the power seat controls since the seats are so close to the doors.

Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with the vehicle. I’ve read other consumer reviews where they state the mileage was less than anticipated. I’ve found that not to be the case & would strongly recommend this vehicle both for the fuel economy and our environment.”
