The 2024 Jeep Wrangler might be hard to distinguish from the 2023 model at a glance, but the new model year brings meaningful changes to America’s favorite off-roader. Chief among the updates are an updated interior with Stellantis’s latest infotainment system, wider availability of key safety features and the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain, and a new rear axle that bumps the Rubicon trim’s towing capacity from 3,500 to 5,000 pounds (critically for Jeep buyers, the new axle also eases the fitment of bigger wheels and tires). Now we know how much Jeep will charge for the full lineup of improved Wranglers: The 2024 Wrangler will start at $33,690 (all prices include a $1,795 destination charge).

Trim Levels

“Sport” means “stripped” in the Wranglerverse. But even Sport-trim Wranglers now pack side curtain airbags — and little else. It’s one of few vehicles left on the market with crank windows. The Sport comes with a standard 285-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine mated with a six-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive; an eight-speed automatic is available. It also rolls on 17-inch steel wheels. Bumping up to the Sport S adds adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, 17-inch aluminum wheels, keyless entry, and power windows and locks.

The Wrangler hierarchy then splits into comfort (Sahara and High Altitude) and capability (Willys, Rubicon, Rubicon X) branches. The eight-speed automatic is standard on the Sahara, as are heated seats, a heated steering wheel and dual-zone climate control. The Sahara’s fender flares are body-colored, and it rides on 18-inch wheels. Step up to the High Altitude and you’ll add the 4xe powertrain that makes 375 hp and offers 21 miles of all-electric range, the Sky power-operated top, 20-inch wheels, 12-way power front seats, Nappa leather, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system and body-color bumpers to complete the monochromatic look. The High Altitude also includes a forward-facing off-road camera, blind spot monitors with rear cross-traffic detection, and rear parking sensors.

The Willys variant is the off-roader’s budget Wrangler, upping the tires from 32s to 33s and adding rock rails and a locking rear differential to the Sport S content. Moving up to the Rubicon brings a new Dana 44 full-float rear axle, a 4:1 transfer case (as opposed to a 2.72:1 in the civilized Wranglers), locking front and rear differentials and an electronically disconnecting front sway bar. New this year for the Rubicon is an available 8,000-pound Warn winch integrated into a special steel front bumper. For a Rubicon X, mash together the High Altitude and Rubicon trims, slap on 35-inch tires, a lower final drive ratio and a 1.5-inch lift. Stuff a 470-hp, 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 under the hood and fit red Nappa leather seats and you’ve got the Rubicon 392, which is the Captain Insano flavor that can hit its 111 mph speed limiter from a stop in about 15 seconds.
