Ride Along With Us for Mud-Flinging Fun in the 2020 Jeep Gladiator
The mid-size pickup truck segment is heating up, and we got our first chance to drive the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator in Northern California. Thanks to some heavy rain, we were able to push the truck’s off-road system to the edge — and have some mud-flinging fun in the process.

The new Gladiator shares its platform with the Wrangler but is longer thanks to the truck’s 5-foot bed. Two powertrains are available: a standard 285-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine making 260 pounds-feet of torque — which will be the only engine at launch — and a 260-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine pumping out 442 pounds-feet of torque.

Jeep says the diesel will be available in 2020. The gas engine comes with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic, while the diesel comes only with the automatic.
This is a vehicle that can work at extremes — off-roading and everyday driving. Much of our drive time was spent on terrain we wouldn’t even want to walk over, including steep, rocky inclines and squishy-squashy mud pits. We also spent time towing on the highway. How did it perform?
