CARS.COM — Ultra-luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce will unveil a new “permanent bespoke” trim level for a couple of its vehicles at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Tired of seeing customization jobs on its cars that stretch the bounds of good taste, Rolls-Royce created the Black Badge trim that gives owners factory-customization options. The new trim takes the models from luxurious and somewhat retro to the low, mean, all-black look that is more popular with younger affluent customers (think: professional athletes and musicians).
The Ghost sedan and Wraith coupe are the first to receive the Black Badge treatment, which starts with a black chrome Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, black chrome trim instead of silver and a new Rolls-Royce badge with the silver-on-black color scheme inverted.
Inside, the upholstery colors are a bit more dramatic than your typical Rolls-Royce fare. The Ghost Black Badge gets black leather combined with Tailored Purple, while the Wraith Black Badge gets black with Cobalto Blue; both interiors include a new carbon fiber and aluminum trim package.
Under the hood, the Ghost’s 6.6-liter V-12 engine gets a bump of 40 horsepower and 30 extra pounds-feet of torque along with new driveshafts. Torque is up 37 pounds-feet in the Wraith; it also gets new driveshafts and a retune to its eight-speed automatic transmission and air suspension.
Look for the new Black Badge models this week at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
