The 9-4X was scheduled to be released earlier, but it was held up during GM’s bankruptcy and subsequent spinoff of Saab to boutique carmaker Spyker. The car came so close to an on-sale date that information about content, trim and powertrains was released a year ago to Saab dealerships under GM, but the crossover may now be repackaged under Spyker’s regime.

The 9-4X will play a critical part in Saab’s turnaround strategy along with the new 2011 Saab 9-5 sedan, according to The Detroit News, which reported that the crossover would go on sale in April. The CUV will be contract-built by GM at the same assembly line that currently builds the 2010 Cadillac SRX. The SRX and 9-4X are sister vehicles, sharing underpinnings and a great deal of mechanical work under the skin.
