CARS.COM — More than 300,000 people already have plunked down money to reserve Tesla’s new Model 3, but Reuters is reporting that Tesla has said the compact sedan’s design hasn’t been finalized yet. The automaker says the Model 3 will deliver at least 215 miles of electric range and have a base price of $35,000.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk told investors that the finalization of the Model 3 design would take another six to nine weeks, Reuters said. Although the Model 3 is scheduled to begin production by the end of 2017, Tesla has missed many of its deadlines, with delayed launches of its Model S and Model X. However, Musk has said that he plans to accelerate production at the Fremont, Calif., plant, which is now targeted to build 500,000 vehicles in 2018, two years ahead of schedule.
