Jumping aboard the bandwagon, TomTom’s next-generation navigation device adds a capacitive touch-screen just like your iPhone.

The Go Live 1000 integrates third-party applications and comes with a year of free internet service. Delaying the pricey monthly fee is almost bigger news than the new touch-screen, but you have to wonder how much it will irk people to start paying that monthly connection fee after a year. On its other devices, TomTom charges $9.95 per month for its Live Services after three months.

The Go Live 1000 also comes with improved IQ Routes and HD Traffic, as well as Park Assist, which can help you find a parking spot in a crowded lot or neighborhood.

The unit will go on sale sometime this summer, but TomTom has not announced pricing yet. The Go Live 1000 will compete directly with Garmin’s newly introduced touch-screen GPS line, the nuvi 3700 series.
