The S60 was the surprise performer in the recent Cars.com $46,000 Sport Sedan Challenge, placing second overall behind the BMW 328i M Sport among six contenders. The Volvo finished ahead of the Mercedes-Benz C250, Audi A4, Cadillac ATS and Acura TL in this head-to-head comparison, scoring points for its quiet, composed manner and value.
The judges praised the S60 for having a comfortable ride and seating, low noise levels and the lowest price in the competition, $38,170 for a T5 Premier with all-wheel drive. In comparison, the prize-winning 328i was $45,745.
The S60 was marked down for its vague steering, noticeable body roll in hard cornering (a major demerit for a sport sedan) and less-than-luxurious interior furnishings that included some decidedly cheap-looking pieces. However, the overall impression was favorable, and the S60 upholds Volvo’s safety reputation by being named a Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
