Minivans have been dusted in the marketplace by SUVs, but they still offer as much passenger and cargo space (or more). Kia is among the manufacturers of minivans still left standing, and it got an early start on the 2019 model year with a refreshed Sedona at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is expected to improve fuel economy, but how does the current six-speed automatic fare? And what kind of fare are you going to pay to fill it up?
On the 2018 Sedona, only the SX model has a 21-mpg combined EPA estimate; the SXL is rated at 19 mpg and other 2018 models are rated at 20 mpg combined.
With a 21.1-gallon fuel tank, filling a Sedona from empty would cost around $55 based on the national average of $2.65 for regular gasoline, as posted early Thursday on the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
In California, where the average price of regular was $3.49, and Hawaii, where it was $3.51 (as usual, the highest in the country), filling the tank would cost about $75.
The cost of filling up a Sedona drops to right around $50 in Missouri, where the average of $2.37 for regular was the lowest in the country.
Pump prices climbed in all but a handful of states the past week, and AAA said the national average for regular rose a noticeable 7 cents. Premium gas rose 7 cents to $3.17, and diesel fuel rose 3 cents to $2.96.
A handful of states saw regular jump by double digits, including Florida, New Mexico, South Carolina and especially Kentucky, where the average price rose a whopping 14 cents.
