You Have 5 Months to Save 11,289,500 Pennies for a BMW 8 Series Coupe
BMW’s new flagship, the revived 8 Series Coupe, has been priced starting at $112,895 (with $995 destination) for the M850i xDrive launch model that will be at dealers Dec. 8. That gives you just about five months to save your pennies or hope your stock portfolio rockets. The M850i xDrive’s starting price is nestled between the competing Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe and Lexus LC500 that start at $125,495 and $92,995, respectively.

The return of the coupe, remembered for the classic 850 coupes from the 1990s, begins with this high-price and high-performance M model powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 putting out 523 horsepower and 553 pounds-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed sport automatic. BMW says it will be good for zero-to-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
The top coupe also has a long list of standard upscale features, including LED headlights with BMW Laserlight technology, Merino leather upholstery, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, adaptive suspension with roll stabilization, M Sport brakes, a 12.3-inch configurable instrument display, and a 10.25 multimedia and navigation touchscreen that also has a BMW iDrive controller.
But being a BMW, there also will be plenty of option boxes to check that should shoot up that starting price, including a 1,400-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system and lots of carbon-fiber pieces, including a carbon-fiber roof. See a full preview here.
