Disappointed by Lack of Transparency in CPO Purchase I

Disappointed by Lack of Transparency in CPO Purchase I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2024 Volvo XC90 in December 2024. While the vehicle itself has performed well overall, the buying experience left me feeling misled and disappointed due to several key omissions that I only discovered after the sale. 1. Misrepresentation of Volvo’s Complimentary Maintenance Plan I was told the vehicle came with three free services as part of Volvo’s complimentary maintenance program. However, it was not disclosed that this coverage begins from the original in-service date — which in this case was April 2024, when the vehicle was used as a loaner by the dealership — not from my purchase date. This means the clock on my complimentary services had already started months before I bought the car. Fortunately, I learned this at another dealership before the services expired — but if I hadn’t found out by chance, I could have lost out on benefits I reasonably believed I was entitled to. 2. Undisclosed Cosmetic Repair There was a small dent or paint imperfection on the rear passenger-side door that had clearly been touched up using a color-matching pen. This wasn’t mentioned in the listing, in person, or during the sales process. While minor, this is the kind of cosmetic issue that a CPO inspection is supposed to catch — and that a buyer should be informed about. 3. Pre-existing Fender Flare Damage Shortly after purchase, I noticed the front driver’s side fender flare had come loose while driving in the rain on the freeway. Upon inspection by another Volvo dealership, I was told the clips were damaged, but there was no sign of recent impact — suggesting this issue existed prior to my purchase. Thankfully, the other dealership repaired it free of charge, but this could have been a safety concern had the part detached while driving at highway speeds. ⸻ Conclusion: I expected a higher level of transparency and thoroughness from a Volvo CPO purchase. Had these issues been disclosed, I might have approached the sale differently or at least been more prepared. I’m sharing this experience in the hope that dealerships improve communication and fully disclose the service and cosmetic history of CPO vehicles — and that Volvo considers more stringent dealer oversight for CPO sales.
